For a long time, I was convinced I had to figure everything out on my own.
Not consciously, more like a quiet thought in the background.
“I’m self-aware.” “I understand myself.” “I’ll figure it out.”
I read, learned, tried different approaches. I started to understand myself better, could name my patterns, and recognize my triggers. And still… surprisingly little actually changed.
You know your patterns. But nothing changes
Do you know that feeling? You know exactly what your pattern is. You recognize yourself in it, sometimes even in the very moment you’re repeating it. And yet, you keep ending up in the same place. Like déjà vu, just without the surprise. More like a quiet frustration, accompanied by that inner voice:
“Why can’t I get out of this?”
This same pattern often shows up in business and leadership as well.
→ Explore how self-awareness shapes conscious leadership
Self-Awareness is not the same as Transformation
You see what you’re doing. You notice when you’re holding yourself back. You know what you should be doing. And still… nothing changes.
Or rather:
avoidance
distraction
procrastination
optimizing something else
thinking about it a little longer
waiting until it finally feels “clear” (It rarely does.)
You Stay Stuck (Even When You Know Better)
Knowledge isn’t the problem...and that’s exactly what makes it so frustrating. Because you can’t hide behind “I just don’t know any better” anymore. You do know. And yet, your system keeps running the same way.
There are patterns operating beneath your awareness:
thoughts that feel logical but keep you small
emotional reactions that feel familiar
behaviors you no longer question
You’re not stuck because you can’t move forward, you’re stuck because you’re trying to do it from within your own perspective.
What Transformational Mentoring actually does
This is where something shifts. You don’t necessarily need more input. You need an honest mirror.
Someone who sees what has become normal to you. Someone who gently challenges your patterns.
Someone who doesn’t let you stay in your comfort zone, but also doesn’t overwhelm you.
Not just in moments of realization, but in the space where real change begins.
Mentoring is not just awareness, it’s integration
Mentoring isn’t only about being seen or understood.
It’s about:
recognizing your contradictions
noticing where you go in circles
staying present when it gets uncomfortable
Sometimes it’s confronting. Because suddenly, you can’t unsee what you’ve become aware of. But that’s exactly where transformation begins. Not in knowing but in recognizing, integrating, and acting. And staying with it. Especially when it would be easier to go back to old patterns.
A different perspective on Mentoring
Today, I no longer see mentoring as “asking for help.” I see it as a conscious decision.
A decision for:
clarity
honesty
responsibility
real change
Maybe you don’t need more knowledge
Maybe you don’t need more information. Maybe you need someone who reflects back what you already know and stays with you when it’s time to actually live it.
A space to explore this further
If you recognize yourself in this, you might not need more information but a different way of working with yourself.
Transformational Mentoring creates space for real awareness, integration, and change.
